Our Place in Space continues to fascinate the world

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope travelling exhibition Our Place in Space continues to fascinate visitors around the world. After its launch to an audience of 30 000 in Venice, Italy, in February 2017, the exhibition was on display in Chiavenna (20 000 visitors), Garching (29 000 visitors) and Vienna, where it attracted 109 000 visitors! Its latest variation is currently being shown in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, where it will be on display till February 2019.
Sponsored by the European Space Agency in collaboration with NASA and STScI, Our Place in Space has the goal to inform, educate and inspire the public about the mission of Hubble, and that of space exploration in general. The exhibition is based on stunning Hubble imagery and it invites national artists to present their own interpretations of where we are coming from, where we belong, what our past might have been, what our future might look like, as well as whether we are alone in the Universe.
Our Place in Space is a journey from our starting location — be it Venice, Garching or Vienna — through the known Universe, to its very edge, where we witness its initial moment and the origin of all things. The exhibition features iconic Hubble images and videos — such as the Jupiter aurorae, the star formation regions seen by Hubble, the largest image ever taken of the Andromeda Galaxy and the new Frontier Fields — alongside imaginative artworks and installations from contemporary artists inspired by Hubble’s view of the cosmos.
So far, Our Place in Space has hosted art of Italian, Austrian and Colombian artists, giving a platform to both established artists and talented students. The large amount of visitors at all locations shows us that the concept of combining art and science in a single exhibition works in any country. The number of institutions interested in hosting the exhibition also illustrates the great interest in expanding the reach of Our Place in Space and its concept. We are looking forward to the locations Our Place in Space will travel to in 2019!
