JWST Drop-in Data Pipeline Session at EAS 2024

29 May 2024

- Chris Evans, Paule Sonnentrucker, Macarena Garcia Marin -

The 2024 European Astronomical Society (EAS) Annual Meeting will be held on 1–5 July 2024 in Padova, Italy. The scientific programme for the week includes several Symposia and Special Sessions that are centred on the latest results from JWST.

We are pleased to announce that ESA will be holding a drop-in session on the JWST data pipeline at 1:15pm on Tuesday 2 July. The objective for this lunch session is to provide an opportunity for you, the user, to be able to ask for help or advice regarding processing of JWST data with the Science Calibration Pipeline.

The session will start with a brief summary of the status of the observatory and the data pipeline, and experts from the ESA JWST NIRSpec and MIRI teams will be available to answer your questions. There will also be further opportunities to follow-up with the team during the week at the ESA stand. While we can’t promise to be able to resolve all of your issues in this short session — our goal is that it serve as a first chance to meet some of the JWST team in a relatively informal environment, and they can point you in the best direction for additional help if required. The JWST team will be happy to hear your thoughts and feedback about the pipeline and its algorithms.

Let us also bring to your attention two ESA-organised lunch sessions during the week, that we encourage you to join to learn more about ESA’s missions and activities. The first will present the services, tools and assets offered by the ESA Space Science Archives, at 1:15pm on Wednesday 3 July. The second will give an overview of the ESA Science Programme, at 1:15pm on Thursday 4 July.

Some of the sessions during the week that will strongly feature JWST results include:

  • Symposium S1: Unveiling Black Hole Growth across Cosmic Time in the JWST and LISA era;
  • Symposium S3: New light on galaxies from Cosmic Dawn to Noon;
  • Symposium S6: European Laboratory Astrophysics in the JWST era;
  • Special Session 6: Chemical evolution in the era of JWST: from stars to galaxies;
  • Special Session 18: Star formation in Local Group environments and in the conditions of Cosmic Noon.

If you are interested to join the EAS meeting, registration is open until 30 June at: https://eas.unige.ch/EAS2024/registration.jsp
