Rocky Worlds DDT Workshop
12 October 2026
- By Chris Evans -
The ongoing Rocky Worlds Director’s Discretionary Time (DDT) programme is combining Hubble and Webb's unique capabilities for exoplanet science to search for evidence of atmospheres on rocky exoplanets in orbit around nearby M-dwarf stars.
In May this year, STScI launched the Rocky Worlds DDT Data Challenge to engage the exoplanet user community in the analysis and interpretation of MIRI observations from the programme. The culmination of the Data Challenge is a workshop being held at STScI on 16-18 November 2026. The workshop will include invited and contributed talks, a mini hackathon to test and compare algorithms and pipelines, and many opportunities to discuss science related to the programme. Registration for the workshop remains open until 16 October, and attendance is not limited to those who participated in the Data Challenge. If you are interested to join, further details are here.
The Rocky Worlds observations continue to make excellent progress. The latest status on the observations, their analysis, and release of the data products is available here. As highlighted in our previous newsletter, when new Rocky Worlds DDT High Level Science Products (HLSPs) are released by the Core Implementation Team, they are available in the European Hubble Space Telescope (eHST) and James Webb Space Telescope (eJWST) Science Archives.
If you want to stay up-to-date with the latest news from the programme, you can join the dedicated mailing list here.
