Comparison of TW Hydrae system to our Solar System
This illustration shows the protoplanetary disc around red dwarf star TW Hydrae. This disc is much wider than the size of our Solar System. In fact, the gap in the TW Hydrae disc produced by a suspected planet resides 12 billion kilometres away from the star. At this distance, the putative planet would orbit far beyond our Kuiper Belt, a reservoir of icy material left over from the formation of our Solar System.
