The blue supergiant star LS1 (artist’s impression)

This short clip shows an animation of the B-type supergiant star LS1 which was discovered with the help of gravitational lensing. These stars are extremely luminous and blue in colour, with a surface temperature between 11 000 and 14 000 degrees Celsius; making them more than twice as hot as the Sun.
