How to Share your Hubble Results with a Broader Audience

20 May 2021

Bethany Downer

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of the ESA/Hubble outreach team’s work and purpose. The outreach team is composed of scientists, science writers, visual artists, image processing specialists and more, who are all eager to showcase the research of the European Hubble users and institutions to the wider ESA/Hubble community and general public.

We have various innovative and effective means of advertising  your new results. This includes the communication of exciting Hubble discoveries, and the insights of the European team members behind these results, to the wider public. ESAHubble.org and its associated social media channels can help by disseminating news from the European Hubble community in the form of science and photo releases, announcements, Space Sparks (a new continuation of the popular Hubblecast video series) and Pictures of the Week, and by developing high-quality artists’ impressions and high-definition videos to communicate new results. We work closely with ESA and international media to support the distribution of our images and releases in order to achieve strong reach of our products to the Hubble community and the general public throughout Europe and internationally.

If you and your team have exciting research results that you believe could be of interest to the public at large, or observations that might produce an image suitable for public release, we encourage you to get in touch with us. We are eager to discuss and explore possible avenues for promoting your work through the various ESA/Hubble products that can be shared with the international ESA/Hubble community.

In order for the outreach team to have sufficient time to review new results and to develop the necessary products and resources associated with a potential release, we ask that you contact us as your paper is being submitted for consideration in a given journal. You may also share datasets with us that you think may be strong candidates for photo releases or our popular Picture of the Week series. Please note that, being resource limited, not all papers images proposed to us for consideration are selected to be featured on ESA/Hubble.org, as we do our best to feature the work of the European Hubble community to a consistently high standard that also attracts the interest of the media and the general public.

If you would like to learn more about the activities and workings of the ESA/Hubble outreach team, we would be happy to organise an information session for interested astronomers to discuss specifics about how papers are considered and developed into various outreach products.

We look forward to hearing from you and to featuring exciting new findings from the European Hubble community.
