Neptune and its moons

This image is a composite of several exposures of Neptune, taken a few hours apart with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Wide Field Camera 3. The different images overlaid on each other clearly show five of Neptune’s moons, Proteus, Despina, Larissa, Galatea and Triton, moving around the planet.

Hubble’s images were taken to celebrate the first complete orbit of the planet since its discovery in 1846. The four images show different faces of the planet as it rotates on its axis.
